Insights and Impact: Youth Empowerment’s Participation in the Refugee Youth Summit 2024

On June 22nd, 2024, Youth Empowerment participated in the Refugee Youth Summit, an impactful online event organised by the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network (APRRN) Youth Working Group in commemoration of World Refugee Day. The theme, “Nothing About Youth, Without Youth!”, deeply resonated with me as young voices from across the Asia-Pacific region filled the virtual space for 90 minutes. The summit focused on protecting refugee rights and exploring how refugee youth can become agents of change. The highlight was an inspiring panel discussion where remarkable community activists and refugee advocates shared insights on mental health, educational opportunities, and creating our own pathways to success. 

In the subsequent breakout session, I joined “Leadership, Advocacy, and Refugee Youth Empowerment,” where dynamic young refugees exchanged ideas on developing leadership skills and advocating for our communities. The energy and passion were palpable as we discussed challenges and strategies to amplify our voices for a just and equitable world for refugees. The summit fostered a renewed sense of solidarity, equipping me with valuable knowledge and tools for leadership and advocacy. It was a powerful testament to the potential of refugee youth as active participants in shaping our destinies and advocating for our rights.
