Attending Cycle of Gender Based Violations on Culture and Traditionalism Workshop by Pa-O Women's Union

On April 23, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the Pa-O Women’s Union organized a workshop titled “Cycle of Gender Based Violations on Culture and Traditionalism,” which I, as a member of Youth Empowerment, had the privilege to attend. The workshop explored the complex relationship between culture, tradition, and gender-based violence, providing a comprehensive understanding of the issue.

Key learnings included distinguishing between sex and gender, identifying various forms of gender-based violence such as physical, sexual, and emotional, and examining their causes rooted in societal norms and power dynamics. We also analyzed characteristics of partner and domestic violence, discussed challenges and potential solutions, and engaged with real-life case studies to apply theoretical knowledge. The workshop expanded my understanding of gender-based violence, and equipped me with practical skills for advocacy. This experience has strengthened my commitment to addressing gender-based violence and promoting gender equality within the community.
